Stress Causing You to Lose Your Hair? Here’s What You Can Do About It

lifestyle hair

There are many lifestyle factors that can lead to hair loss. Poor diet, lack of sun exposure, lack of sleep and stress can all contribute to the hormonal imbalances and vitamin deficiencies that ultimately result in noticeably thinning hair. While in theory everyone would love to make extreme diet and lifestyle changes to rectify these issues, reality says otherwise. Jobs are stressful, having children disrupts sleep and we are encouraged to constantly wear sunscreen thus causing vitamin D deficiencies. And diets are notoriously hard to change in todays fast paced world.

By nature, I am a person that is easily stressed from simple things. While I have tried to use stress management to control it, real life gets in the way and the tools for managing stress desert me. This in turn caused me to not eat properly as I can’t eat when under stress. I also lost sleep worrying. It started to affect my health which in turn affected my hair.

I did change my diet and it went a long way in helping me manage my stress. I also found that my sleep patterns were better. I definitely felt better all around. But the ill effects of living for so long in an unhealthy way took a toll on my hair.  And when it comes to hair, lifestyle changes can take a while before results are seen. I did not want to wait a full year before my hair started growing again.

After much research, and in consultation with my health care professional, I learned that a two sided treatment plan is really necessary for hair woes. Diet should slowly be changed to a whole foods based one. Sleep will always be unpredictable but getting at least seven hours a night is a worthy goal. Get a little sun sometimes, it is good for you. But for more immediate results, for results that can be seen much sooner, a topical solution of essential oils known to prevent hair loss can work wonders.

I looked far and wide to find the right hair care product. I wanted one that would give me the most with the least amount of work. I found it in a product from the trusted natural hair care brand Pura d’Or. Their newest product, their ProOrganic shampoo and conditioner contains  many essential oils and extracts from plants and seeds that have been shown in clinical trials to stop hair loss and promote hair growth. I purchased it from, started using it and  saw results after only a few weeks of use.

While I will definitely try to stick with my new eating plan, I’m really happy I found this ProOrganic shampoo. Now, even if I slip up or life’s circumstances get in the way, I know I can keep my hair looking beautiful. Even if hair issues are caused from lifestyle choices that are difficult to change, it’s good to know that there is a product out there that can help.
